Crystal Falls, Michigan gained international attention when a giant fungus "Armillaria bulbosa" was found in a forest nearby. Both Nature and the New York Times covered the story. This fungus weighed 100 tons. Scientists believe that it is the oldest living & largest organism on earth. |

The Iron County Museum and park has twenty three buildings including: Cultural Center, Research Center, The Lee LeBlanc Wildlife Art Gallery, Giovanelli Italianati Art Gallery, and the Bernardt Contemporary Art Gallery. Iron River was known for its mining. Within the the museum, you will find the Mining Memorial Hall where there is a list of the 562 miners who lost their lives in the mines during almost a century of work. |
