Snowmobile Races This Weekend! Play your weekend stay!
The MASTERS Racing Circuit will bring the Mid America Championship Hillclimb (MACH) to Caspian on Saturday, Feb 4.
The hillclimb will take place at the former Caspian ski jump at the Caspian ski hill.
This hillclimb will feature the top professional snowmobile hillclimbers as they try to qualify for the World Championship Snowmobile Hillclimb in Jackson, Wyo., March 22-25.
The MASTERS (Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers) is the oldest professional sanctioning circuit of snowmobile hillclimbs in the Midwest.
This is the racing circuit that has run snowmobile hillclimbs at Copper Peak near Ironwood, winternationals at South Range, Marquette Mountain uphill drags, and the popular Snow Valley Riders snow drags in Sidnaw.
“We are excited to be competing in Caspian, and look forward to a long future of having this championship hillclimb in Caspian,” said MASTERS Racing Circuit President Skip Schulz.
According to Schulz, drivers will have to make it to the top of the bluff by going around a series of “gates.”
It is the difficulty of turning the snowmobiles around the gates that Schulz says will have the fans sitting at the edge of their seats.
“The fans that come early will have the chance to get a VIP parking spot right at the bottom of the hill. This way, they will be able to watch the competition from the comfort of their vehicle. They will be able to hear the PA system on their FM radio,” he said.
VIP parking is at a first come basis, with the gates opening at 7 a.m.
Overflow parking will be across from the Caspian City Hall. VIP parking fee is $15, gate admission is $5 with children under 10 free.
Those who choose to park across from the City Hall are asked to bring lawn chairs to watch the competition, which is scheduled to begin at 9.
Competition will take place in three divisions: Pro Stock, Pro Mod and women’s division. First in each class qualifies for the World Championship Hillclimb in Jackson, Wyo.
The MASTERS racing circuit also gives children between the ages of 5 and 9 the chance to compete in the 120 cc class.
The Pro Stock and Pro Mod Division classes are then broken down to engine size.
The winner of each class qualifies for the world championship, and also qualifies for the “King of the Hill” features at the end of the day.
The Pro Stock King of the Hill will win $500 from Northland Service/Nicolet Signs.
The Pro Mod King of the Hill will win $500 from The Station Pub.
Drivers are also competing for trophies and a cash purse for each class.
“We have drivers coming from all over the Midwest to compete, as this is the only chance the drivers have to qualify for the world championship hillclimb,” said Schulz
“That means this event is going to not only bring fans to the Caspian area, but is also going to be bringing drivers and their families to the area. Believe me, they spend money.”

“The MASTERS racing circuit has so many people to thank for giving us the opportunity to bring this major snowmobile event to the area. Not just our fantastic business sponsors, but the city of Caspian. It is the City Council and city manager that have done so much for us to hold this event,” said Schulz.
The drivers will be at The Station on Friday night, Feb. 3, to draw for the order they will compete.
The awards ceremony will also be at The Station, and that will take place on Saturday night, Feb 4.
