It's Walleye Season Opener!  Many anglers will be venturing out to fish on the opening day and opening weekend, although by far the most popular target species is walleye.

Selecting... the proper spot is crucial to walleye fishing success. Walleye spawning occurred early this year so they should be active but in a later season pattern than on years where they spawn at the “normal time.”
When walleye spawning occurs early, walleye often move away from typical spawning locations and disperse into early summer locations.
As we approach opening day, local water temperatures are higher than they typically are on other years.
This year, both female and male walleye will likely have dispersed to better forage and cover areas that include mud bars or flats where burrowing mayflies reside.
With aquatic vegetation still not developed, fallen trees and sunken timber will be a good place to locate shallow walleye.
