A magical place in the Northwoods

Photo: A magical place in the Northwoods!
Take HWY 70 towards Eagle River from Iron River. Turn onto Military road about 20 miles. Follow the road to the parking area where you'll see walking trails. Take the walking trail to the wilderness lodge (great for winter camping), as you round the bend right before the lodge, the sounds of thousands of chickadees fill the air. Bring your bird seed as they will stop to visit and are looking for a snack. It's a great place to be www.ironcountylodging.com

Take Hwy. 70 toward Eagle River about 20 miles from Iron River, turn left on the Military Road just past the Anvil Lake Campground, go down about 2 miles and look carefully for a big parking lot on the left with a trailhead and bathroom and hike on the very side of the cross country ski trail or ski in if enough snow about a mile to the warming hut and all the birds. You might not see them right away but they will find you if you put the seed out in your hand!  They LOVE sunflower seeds and are a little fussy about regular bird seed; they will buzz you and love you
